Today I continued with the exhausting, bitter-sweet labouring of Spring Cleaning. This time, consumed with the task of sorting through the birthday/Christmas/whatever-other-occasion cards that I lazily piled together over the years. I remember thinking to myself if I'd ever even take the time to look through each card years later, and wondered if there was any point to setting them aside if they'll just go unnoticed each year that passes (I happen to be very practical). And yes, they did go unnoticed for years, until today. And yes, I did consider throwing them all out, until today.
Looking through everything, it's triggered memories I haven't stopped to try to remember in years. Reading cards from close friends and remembering why you're close friends in the first place was lovely; and laughing at all the past jokes and memories (some written that I can no longer remember). Although, reading cards from former close friends and family you never see anymore.. it left me deciding whether or not to toss or keep them. I thought maybe years from now they'll trigger fonder memories of when things used to be good.
Anyway, I'm glad I sorted through all that, or else I would've never realized that my parents gave me the exact same birthday card two years in a row.
PS. I FINALLY found that Mandy Moore autograph that I lost over 10 years ago! I thought I'd never see that again.
